On 25th September 2013, Marine & Risk Consultants Ltd (Marico Marine) conducted a compliance audit of the Safety Management System of the Port of Newhaven to the requirements of the Port Marine Safety Code (PMSC).
Marico Marine conducted similar audits for the Newhaven Port Authority on 23rd April 2010 and 12th October 2011.
From what was seen during the harbour visit and from the perusal of the documentation supplied, Newhaven Port Authority complies with the Port Marine Safety Code and has a satisfactory Safety Management System in place.
It was also noted that the vast majority of recommendations made by Marico Marine in both the Navigation Risk Register Assessment conducted in September 2011 and the Port Marine Safety Code Audit conducted in October 2011 have been accepted and taken forward.
There appears to be a continuing significant step change in the management of the Port of Newhaven, particularly since the last audit, with the introduction of the newly revised and improved Safety Management System documentation and procedures.
