Fishermen Safety Issues at Sea and within Harbour Areas
The National Federation of Fishermen's Organisation (NFFO) and the MCA managed Fishing Industry Safety Group (FISG), have published an awareness booklet on Personnal Flotation Devices/Lifejackets for Fishermen, in a bid to encourage more fishermen to wear them.
The facts are that between 1993 and 2013, 103 UK fishermen have died from drowning and over 99% of them were not wearing lifejackets.
The free booklet together with an annual Safety CD are available from FISG and NFFO.
The Harbour Master has a few copies of the booklet available at the Port Offices and will also distribute at the next Port Users Group (Fishing) meeting.
The link that follows is a You Tube video where a fisherman tells his story about how a PFD saved his life.
