St Andrews Church in Bishopstone Village will be holding a Sea Sunday service at 1015hrs on 13th July 2014. All are welcome to this annual event in support of the Mission to Seafarers, who support seafarers in need in over 260 ports in 71 countries around the world, through its global network of chaplains and volunteers who offer a warm welcome, practical and financial support, advocacy services, access to legal advice and family liaison.
The seafarers centres offer a "home away from home", providing a range of facilities including telephone and email services, which enable seafarers to contact loved ones; the opportunity to relax away from their ship; and the chance to seek counselling and spiritual support.
At last years service at St Andrews Church, donations for the work of the Mission to Seafarers totalled £1000, and it would be nice to equal or better that this year. The service lasts for approximately 50 minutes after which all attending are invited to stay on for some wine, soft drinks and some finger food in the church.
